Welcome to the British Clematis Society

It is not surprising that clematis, the Queen of climbing plants, are among the most popular and attractive garden plants. The varieties and types of clematis available are breathtaking and they can be planted to provide ongoing interest throughout the seasons.

The flower colours range from white, cream, yellow, pink, red, blue, mauve and purple. There are evergreen, deciduous and exotic types and bushy herbaceous plants as well as climbers. The flowers can be star or saucer shaped and there are nodding types with bell shapes, urn shapes, cup shapes and tubular flowers. The different types of leaves with their variety of shapes, sizes and textures are equally beautiful and fascinating.

The British Clematis Society is a registered charity (no. 1049107) and has been encouraging, promoting and sharing knowledge, information and advice about clematis since 1991. We are also a Royal Horticultural Affiliated Society (no. 10586944).

On this website you will find guidance, advice and support for the genus Clematis.

We hope you will find it useful and interesting and share our love, passion and interest in all things clematis whether you are a novice or expert.

We do hope you will join us. Members receive our quarterly newsletters, an annual journal and have access to the members area of this website where more information can be found.
